Andi Cho (Drawing and Painting Teacher)
"Working with children is great especially doing art together with them. I always feel that I learn more from
the children than I teach, and I have taught children during my spare time since 1980s. I learned traditional
Chinese ink painting since I was very young, and Chinese painting eventually became my first major in college.
Graphic design, computer arts, and multimedia became my profession after a long time studies in California. I
understand and appreciate both traditional at and modern concepts, and I like to introduce children new ideas
and encourage them to try differnt ways of doing things. It is good for children to learn how to balance their art
work from a reverse training. E.g. if a child's personality is neat, careful, and tend to be perfect, I would show
some wild and strong strokes. If a child is more care free, I would ask the child to pay more attention in details.
However, some of my young students are independant, and they do not like my help...
I also try to bring topics that children could relate with or somehting they could learn about themselves, history,
our environment, great people, or it could be anything in life. I try to remind parents that your child's art doesn't
really have to be like the teacher's. Please DO NOT analyze too much on our child'd art work from adult's
perspective or judge it's right or wrong. They are expressing their thinking from the view of their age and will
gradually learn from the eperiences and develop..." Initially, I prefer to teach the concept, bring them ideas and
help them understand the the art and design language, so that children will continue grow interests and feel
confident to express in their art. As they grow and develop more interests, it's good to practice more advanced skills.
For older children, I plan to teach a class about "how to build and publish your own website", and students will learn
how to create, edit, and crop photos and images, typography, deisgns with a simple site map, UI and usability, etc.
Please contact me if you are interested. ~Andi
